First Sayer in blood line to venture out of farming and into the business world. Started a (very successful) cheese plant in DeKalb, New York.

Past Welfare Officer for Town of DeKalb; Member DeKalb Board of Education; Town Committeeman on the County Republican Organization; Co-Founder & President of Maple Ridge Telephone Company; Charter member Old DeKalb Grange; Master of DeKalb Masonic Lodge; Member Hermon Chapter, Blue Lodge, 500 F. & AM; Member Canton Royal Arch Masons; Watertown Media Temple Shrine and the Commandry at Canton.

He moved to DeKalb Jct in 1919.

He was married to Josephine M. Piercy (daughter of Isaac Piercy and Eliza A. Wallace) on 17 Aug 1898 in DeKalb Junction, St. Lawrence Co, NY. (218) Josephine M. Piercy (98) was born on 11 Jun 1879 in DeKalb, St. Lawrence Co, NY. She died on 5 May 1977 in Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence Co, NY. Ira Ulysses Sayer and Josephine M. Piercy had the following children:
