FIFTH GENERATION

325. Earl Frederick Petrie was born on 7 Nov 1890 in Macomb, St. Lawrence Co, NY. He died on 30 Jun 1947 in Gouverneur, Jefferson Co, NY. shortly after 7 in front of the horse stalls at the Governeur fair grounds while waling a horse owned by Ed Demo in front of the building. The coroner reported that the death was caused by coronary thrombosis. His funeral was St. James Roman Catholic Church Thursday morning in Potsdam, , NY. Rev. Frederick P. Diviney, pastor, celebrated the requiem mass. He was buried in St. James Cemetery, Potsdam, , NY. He attended schools in Gouverneur. In 1915 he became an employee of the St. Joseph Lead company, Edwards. After working for the concern for about 20 years, Mr. Petrie was transferred to Balmat, where he became machanical superintendent for the company at mines in that village.

Mr. Petrie was a harness racing follower, having owned his own horse, "Jefferson", for a number of years. He devoted much of his spare time to helping other hourse owners in training their animals. He was a member of the New York State Racing Association.

He was married to Mabel Martin on 27 Aug 1917 in Potsdam, , NY. Rev. Bernard Marron performed the ceremony.
