Dear Friends
Time again for the annual letter from the Corys. Boy, do
we have a lot of news this year. Significant events have happened to each
of us. Vibeké finished her first year of college, Chris progressed in her
tennis game, and Earl has a new job. I know that sounds like last year,
but it's true once again.
First, let us tell you about Vibeké. She turned twenty
this fall. If you will remember, last year she said that she wanted to be
a "starving actress"; she found out what it was like and moved back home.
She completed her first year of college at The American Academy of
Dramatic Arts in Pasadena. For her second year she decided to try out
for The California Institute of Arts, but got cold feet when it
came to the audition, so she went to Pierce College. She has made
arrangements to audition again and says she will do it this time.
Chris is still with the Ingres Division of ASK Companies.
Her job as the South West Area Technical Manager has remained the same and
has her traveling around Southern California, Arizona, Nevada, Mexico, and
the Ingres office in Alameda. She continued to improve her tennis game.
She progressed to second place in the "B" group and says she was cheated
out of first place. Do to winds the night she was going to beat the first
place person, the match was cancelled.
Earl's new job as Vice President of Engineering at IDSI in
Valencia didn't last long; the company ran out of money. So he went into
the consulting business. Currently he is working at Public Storage helping
them consolidate their computer operations. He continued his activities in
DECUS. He was elected Chair of the Symposia Committee after the chair
moved on to the Board of Directors. Meetings have taken him to Atlanta,
GA, Beverly Hills, CA and Orlando, FL (on his birthday) as well as a few
trips to Boston (Chris says "a few too many.")
We have an addition to our family this year. This one is
different than the ones in the past; she's not a pet. Errin Stevenson
joined our family in June. She is 21 and studied to be a dancer. Vibeké
and she have been good companions (they fight like siblings). The two of
them together are typical "valley girls".
We have been up to other things this year. In January,
Earl and Chris, along with some friends, Ed and Marie Gregor, went to
Whistler/Blackcone Mountain in British Columbia to ski. The snow was great
and the runs were the longest they have ever skied. We really recommend
this resort, but don't leave home without your American Express Card.
In February, the "girls", Chris, her mother, Gracie, and
her sister-in-law, Carol, spent a wild weekend in Las Vegas. They stayed
up all night feeding coins into the machines to help the casino pay its
large electricity bill!
In July, Earl and Chris traveled to Mexico City to see the
total eclipse. Earl took along a small telescope and set it up so that
everyone could see it projected on the ground. He go so excited during
totality, that he didn't use his tripod to take photographs. The pictures
came out with the sun looking like a lemon. They stayed at the home of
some friends, Elias and Cristina Troncoso. The trip was very enjoyable,
besides viewing eclipse; they went to El Tajin, a vast ruin in Veracruz,
as the guest of the Mayor of the City of Papantla. On the way back, they
were caught in a hailstorm and one-meter deep flooding in the streets of
Mexico City. Another highlight of the trip was taking the Troncoso boys,
Pablo and Adolfo, on the Metro during rush hour. They spent time at the
Temple Mayor, the Museo Rufino Tamayo, and Chapultepec Castle.
Once again this year, Chris's sales area exceeded quota,
which resulted in a free vacation with her "significant other", Earl. They
spent five days in Hawaii on the island of Maui at the Four Seasons Hotel.
The days were filled with sun, fun, food, Pińa Coladas, Mai Tais, and
snorkeling - thanks to Ingres. Earl used some of his upgrade stickers so
that they were able to go first class.
In August, Chris, Vibeké, and Gracie, Chris's mother, went
to Aruba for a week (they used Earl's frequent flier miles, but he wasn't
allowed to go.) He stayed home to take care of the animals while they laid
on the beach, drank Brown Ladies, snorkeled, and rested. Vibeké had a
great time meeting the "guys" and demands to go back again next year,
alone.
Two other things happened in October, first Earl and Chris
went to Grandville, Ohio to a wedding. They spent the weekend visiting
with friends and touring the Indian Mounds in the area. Second, they had
visitors from the Netherlands, Enno and Tijaan Brands, who have been
living in Taipei for a couple of years. It was Tijaan's first trip to the
U.S. They came over to attend a weeklong trade show in Las Vegas and have
a week of sightseeing. They started and ended their trip to San Francisco
and back at our house. The first rainy day in several months was the
Saturday that we tried to show them Los Angeles. The tour we gave them was
not very good. We hope to make it up to them next time.
Earl, has been too busy this year looking for jobs,
working, and "doing DECUS", to spend a lot of time on genealogy. He hopes
to get back to it next year.
Well that's our life in 1991. We are always happy to hear
from you and what you and your family have bee doing. We accept, letters,
phone calls, visits, etc. at our home. If you are ever out our way, let us
know and maybe we can get together and relive old times. We have an extra
room. Our phones are: (818) 999-9851 and (818) 999-9852. There is a
recorder on both.
Hope to hear from you soon,
-

P.S.
This coming year my Mom and Dad will be celebrating a very
important anniversary, their 25th. I am going to have a MAJOR party for
them on July 11. I am telling you this in advance so that you can put that
date on your calendar. If you don't already live here, PLEASE come to L.A.
and help us celebrate. I will send you an invitation later with all the
details.
