Dear Friends,
Time again for the annual letter from the Corys.
A singular exciting thing happened to us this year.
If you don't know already or your eyes may have not told you from the top,
WE HAVE MOVED. Yes, after fifteen years at the Cory Ranch, we have moved.
Why? You might ask.
Many reasons. The first is that we are both closer
to work.
Yet another, Vibeke turned fifteen this fall and
entered high school. Her interests have turned to drama. Her new school,
Agoura High School, offers an excellent drama curriculum as well as dance.
The house is a new one, no yard, no lawn, just dirt.
We will have a busy next few years replacing all the
things that we are leaving like patios, decks, covers, extra rooms in the
garage, etc.
We have been up to other things this year. Chris is
still with the same company, Hughes Research Labs in Malibu! This is
almost a record for her. She must like it. She has expanded her
involvement in a computer group. She now has to plan as well as attend
meetings around the US.
Earl still works for EATON Corporation in Westlake
Village as a Systems Manager. His staff has grown to one. This year he
continued his activities in the Digital Equipment Computer User Society (DECUS).
He continues to be on the symposium committee and travels to Boston and
other places for planning meetings and symposium.
Since two out of three of us work in the computer
industry, the format of this letter has not changed. Writing on the
computer is faster and far more legible than writing it by hand.
Over the Easter Vacation, Vibeke went to Washington
D.C. on another field trip with other junior high students from Camarillo.
Also on this trip were students from Agoura. When she returned, she said
she wanted to move to Agoura, so we did.
Vibeke turned fifteen this fall and entered Agoura
High School. She still is a "typical teenager", but more mature than last
year. Her makeup is getting milder and her clothes more normal. Her main
interests are shopping, music, dancing, theater, and guys.
Vibeke's interest in Drama and "The Theater" were
given several lifts this year. During the summer, she performed in the
musical production "PIPPIN". She was the youngest member of the cast. The
drama department at her new high school is very good. This year she
discovered Shakespeare, Checkoff, and Steinbeck. Her class was invited to
be bit players in a western being filmed at the Paramount Ranch near us.
Vibeke rented a costume, went to set, and waited and waited and waited.
The whole day was lost for two minutes of shooting. She now knows that the
movies are different than live theatre. She would do it again.
In July, Earl was forced to go to Hawaii on
business. Chris and Vibeke joined him over the Fourth of July weekend.
They both learned to surf. (We have pictures to prove it.)
Vibeke, Chris, and Earl attended as many plays at
the Los Angeles Music Center and in Hollywood as the budget will allow. As
a family, we enjoy attending plays, musicals, and concerts.
In the past year we have had one tragedy, the new
family member, a bright green Iguana, Iggy, which lived in a large,
expensive, landscaped, glass cage in her bedroom, died. It was buried in
appropriately marked grave in the front of our new house.
You may remember that last year Chris ran over our
old cat, Mama Gatta. But after a quick trip to the Vet, intensive care for
over a week, many dollars, and much to the surprise of the Vet, she
survived. She is now healthier than ever. The move seems have done both of
the cats good. They are fatter than ever.
Well that's our life in 1986. We would be happy to
hear from you and what you and your family have been doing.
We accept letters, visits, etc. at our new home. If
you are ever out our way, let us know and maybe we can get together and
relive over old times. Our phone(s) are:
(818) 707-3540 and (818) 707-3542 (our recorder)
Hope to hear from you soon.
