Dear Friends,
Since we received such favorable response from last years letter, we
decided to do it again this year. We heard from people that we hadn't
heard from in years. If you keep writing, so will we.
We will start by telling you what the Cory's have been up to over the
year. Chris is still with the same company, Hughes Research Labs in
Malibu! The most exciting thing to happen to her this year was the recent
fires. They came very close to the buildings where she works. One day, the
only time she could leave was early in the afternoon because the roads
were closed. She has become involved in a computer group and travels to
meetings around the US. In the fall, she became a member of Beyond War.
Earl still works for EATON Corporation in Westlake Village as a systems
manager. This year he has become much more active in the Digital Equipment
Computer User Society (DECUS). He was appointed to the symposium committee
and travels to Boston and other places for planning meetings.
Since two out of three of us work in the computer industry, the format
of this letter has not changed. Writing on the computer is faster and far
more legible than writing it by hand.
Vibeke turned fourteen this fall and entered the eight grade. She still
is a "typical teenager", but more mature than last year. Her makeup is
getting wilder and her clothes more normal. Her main interests are
shopping, music, dancing, and guys. She is presently taking jazz, ballet,
and pointe classes. She performed in several dance and fashion shows this
year. Her photography has continued to "develop". She received a new Nikon
camera and lens for her birthday and Christmas last year. Of the thirteen
slides and four black and white prints she entered in the Ventura County
Fair this year, she received ten firsts, seven seconds, and sweepstakes.
This is the second year in a row that she received the sweepstakes ribbon.
(It's terrible when your kid does things better than you do.)
In the summer Vibeke went to Washington, D.C. on a field trip with
other Junior High students. Earl was there on a business trip and
surprised her at the airport. In August, all three of us went to a dude
ranch in Colorado. It was the second time that we had gone to one and
enjoyed it a great deal. (We recommend it to anyone who wants to get away
from radio, TV, phone, housework, work, etc. and relax, have someone wait
on your, look at great scenery, and ride a horse.) Vibeke has put in a
request to do it again next year, but at yet a different place.
Chris and Vibeke spent Memorial Day weekend on Catalina Island, while
Earl had to spend the week in New Orleans on a business. It is unclear who
had the best time.
Vibeke and Chris (sometimes Earl) attended as many concerts as our
budget allows; including Bruce Springsteen, Willie Nelson, Cats, Tina
Turner, The Pointer Sisters, Kenny Loggins, Nina Hagen (ever heard of
her?), and plays at the Los Angeles Music Center and in Hollywood. As a
family, we still enjoy attending plays, musicals, and concerts.
In the past year we have had one tragedy, a new family member, and one
mishap. First, Vibeke's rat, Champy, died. It was replaced with a bright
green Iguana, Iggy, which lives in a large, expensive, landscaped, glass
cage in her bedroom. Chris ran over our old cat, Mama Gata. After a quick
trip to the Vet, intensive care for over a week,
many dollars, and much to the surprise of the Vet, she survived. The vet
said that Mama Gata is the first cat that they had ever saved that had
been ROBOed (Run Over By Owner). Not bad for a thirteen year old cat!
Well that's our life in 1985. We would be happy to hear from you and
what you and your family have been doing.
If you are ever out our way, let us know and maybe we can get together
and bore each other over old times. Our phone(s) are:
(805) 482-5736 and (805) 484-7705 (our recorder)
Hope to hear from you soon.
