Reporting Schedule
Each member reviewed them.
Earl announced that Chris' Company, Versata, went
public on March 12.
David announced that the following day was a triple
witching day.
7:18, Robert came in. We went back over the assignments for his benefit.
He had questions on what a report consisted of.
David gave him some examples.
Next month, April, Jim and David will do the stock
selection and Sandra will give a report.
Stock
Selection:
Pipi passed out value lines for the companies that
she and Jeanne selected for presentation next month. They chose the Advertising Industry and will report on
Omnicom Group, Inc. (NYSE-OMC) and WPP Group (ADR) (NDQ-WPPGY).
Jeanne would also like us to consider Lucent
Technology (NYSE-LU) and will report on it. This lead into a discussion
of other companies in the fiber optics area.
David suggested Corning Glass and Earl suggested Levitron.
Since Jim and David needed ideas for next month, they smiled to
themselves and the meeting moved on.
Report:
Earl present three short reports from the recent issue of Better
Investing:
1.
NAIC
has created a method of analyzing mutual funds and there is a form that
may be completed and sent to them to receive the material.
2.
BI
has been polling clubs and has created a NAIC Top 100
3.
A
article by Bradlee Perry was passed out that presented Seven Ways to
Make Money In Stocks and Seven Ways to Lose Money In Stocks.
Portfolio
Review:
John - Biomet --- They made the largest acquisition
in their history, Implant Innovations International. He indicated that the solid line on the value line chart
indicates cash flow. They
have a $70mil debt, but this is small compared to their worth.
The SSG put them in the buy range, but we decided that we would
just hold.
Earl - Oracle --- Just reported a very good quarter.
Profit up 80 percent, database sales climbed by a third.
Earl passed out a graph that showed their performance for the
last three years with indication of where we bought and the days closing
price. (6.8541 - 81 15/16) He
also gave out a report from CBS MarketWatch listing the most recent high
lights.
Pipi - HP --- They are in the buy range, but she was
hesitant when considering the high price of crude oil.
There was some discussion about the need for drilling and OPEC
controls.
Stock
Study:
Robert and John reported on three companies:
1.
Johnson
and Johnson -- Large, stable, low growth, in the hold range
2.
Datascope
Corp. -- Looks good, but
stock is high and going up, in hold range.
Upside-downside ratio was only 1.9-1
3.
Cardinal
Health --- Smaller company,
stock down now, but most signs look good.
In buy range. After
listing to both John and Robert recommendations, looking at our
potential cash position, Robert moved to buy 15 shares.
It was seconded by John and passed unanimously.
As part of their training session on Tuesday, John and Pipi will
buy 15 shares on the TD Waterhouse web site.
Extra-Added-Value:
John passed out a Pert Chart and Portfolio Trend
Report. Once again it was
mentioned that we need to better understand these reports.
Suggestion:
Jim asked that we put our buy and sell criteria on
the web page. Earl agreed
to update the site with more current information.
